There aren’t a lot of places in Dubai for donuts outside of Western chains like Tim Horton’s, Dunkin, and Krispy Kreme. Instead, there are places who sell lots of things with a donut or two. I’ve been trying to look for donut-specific shops, but they’re just too few and far between. That’s why today’s visit is to a shop called Baker & Spice.
Baker & Spice is a very posh spot set in the Souk Al Bahar tucked behind the Dubai Mall. There’s indoor seating, but on nice days (read: when it’s not scorching out as in the summer days), it’s best to relax on the outdoor, covered patio overlooking the Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountains, and the Burj Khalifa. The whole spot is nicely appointed. It’s definitely the swankiest spot I’ve had a donut in.
And about that donut… it’s just one donut. At least, on this day, there was only one—the staple of donuts, the Glaze Doughnut. It takes a moment to find the donut among all the baked goods in the glass case. Baker & Spice is obviously much more than a donut shop. It looks even more than a bakery despite its glass case overloaded with goods.
As I mentioned, there aren’t many spots to have a donut. But the ambiance of Baker & Spice coupled with the availability of at least ONE donut makes this a recommended spot to stop and enjoy the view. At least, on a good weather day, this is a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle at the Mall.
