Local Moose’s Ginger Cracker and Cinnamon Donut

Mmm Donut is really getting me to try new donut flavors I wouldn’t normally. I’m not really a fan of ginger… or cinnamon. However, as I walked into The Local Moose Cafe, I realized that this was the only donut left till the man behind the counter offered a fresh donut — the Salted, Milk, & Honey Donut. So, I first committed to this one.

I admit I was a little negatively biased about this donut because it had two ingredients I tend to not care for. However, I’m glad that I tried this out. I now know that yeah, this type of donut isn’t really my thing. The two flavors give it a spiciness that I’m not a big fan of. It’s a light spice, for sure. However, it was a flavor that I don’t particularly love on a donut. A candy cane or plainly as a cracker? Sure, in their respective forms.

Where is The Local Moose Cafe?

SK’s Maple Bacon Donut

First, I love bacon. I love donuts. However, I have never gotten bacon on a donut. I’ve had bacon in ice cream — that was fantastic. So while I was on vacation in LA, #YOLO — maple bacon donut, it is! And boy did I enjoy each sweet and savory bite. Seriously. The dough, as I mention in the SK Strawberry Nutella Donut post, is perfect. This donut was more conventional in shape than the Strawberry Nutella, however, the dough was still perfection. As the other donut stretched out jaws, this one was of “normal” height. Each bite was light. The bacon added a chewy-ness to each chew while adding a slight salty undertone. Then, as my mouth enjoyed each bite and squeeze of the donut, the maple syrup frosting kicks in to usher in a sweet wave that made my mouth smile. I may have to get more donuts with bacon while adding bacon to more unconventional dishes.

Where Is SK Donuts & Croissant?

Orwasher’s Blueberry-Filled Donut

Not going to lie, I did have much time to truly appreciate the Orwasher Blueberry-Filled Donut — my buddy was sitting in his car on the side street to Orwashers because we couldn’t get a parking space. So, I had to run in, order, unwrap the donuts I ordered, take pictures, bite, assess, and then run out — I finished the donuts in the car. Now, I don’t usually get a jelly-filled donut. In fact, I don’t get anything-filled donut much. However, Orwasher’s is famous for their baked pastries and jelly donuts. I’m all about going for specialities. Plus, the blueberry just made this more healthy — all about those antioxidants.

Orwasher’s White Frosted Donut

Not going to lie, I did have much time to truly appreciate the Orwasher White Frosted Donut — my buddy was sitting in his car on the side street to Orwashers because we couldn’t get a parking space. So, I had to run in, order, unwrap the donuts I ordered, take pictures, bite, assess, and then run out — I finished the donuts in the car. This particular donut was great. I’m not crazy about more doughy donuts, but this was still very airy. Meanwhile, the frosting covered was great and was perfectly sweetened. Very good donut — would definitely go back.

Sublime’s Dirty D

When you’re referred to as the “D” (I’m talking about you, donut), I have high expectations. Mostly because this donut is pretty much my namesake in donut-form. Add in some oreo chocolate cookie crumbles and the wonder dough from Sublime, and you have the recipe for something special. It was certainly a good donut, and one I would spring for in the future beyond whatever donut(s) I’m reviewing.

Where Is Sublime Doughnuts?

Sublime’s Dulce de Leche

“Sweet of milk” — the straight translation of “dulce de leche” which is what this particular donut from Sublime Doughnuts is named. Simplistically, dulce de leche is made by caramelizing sugar in milk, thus, making the milk that much sweeter and richer. In this case, the chocolate was that much richer. Even the dough had stronger hints of chocolate infused.

Where Is Sublime Doughnuts?

Sublime’s White Chocolate

Nestled in a busy shopping center at a busy intersection, it’d be easy to be go-go and fly by the glorious 24-hour artistry that is Sublime Doughnuts. Here, there are pictures of donuts and ice cream (yes, there’s ice cream, too) adorning the wall and donut pillows on a leather couch. Their donuts (or, “doughnuts”) are creative and some experimental in flavor. Today, we review their White Chocolate donut complete with chocolate slivers of frosting that has been finely raked to give it extra panache. It was a tasty, sweet donut for sure. Perhaps because of its white chocolaty-ness, then, that it was not as chocolaty as I was expecting. Definitely a donut that will satisfy cravings, and will not force an eater out of his/ her comfort zone.

Where Is Sublime Doughnuts?

Bob’s Old-Fashioned

A rare old-fashioned donut for me. In fact, I couldn’t remember the last time I had one. I did have this donut after the Chocolate Frosted with Sprinkles, and I have to say that I liked this one more — though, it wasn’t by much. I appreciated the slight crunch of the old-fashioned while the thinner dough make-up downplayed the otherwise cake/ dough taste. That, and the added sugar glaze was welcomed — again, as a way to downplay the otherwise doughy taste.

Bob’s Chocolate Frosted with Sprinkles

The staple of every donut shop aside from the glazed, Bob’s chocolate frosted sprinkle donut was just as simple with nothing extra. The donut was surprisingly dense in sprinkle coverage. It was a good snack, but as the first donut to be reviewed on Mmm Donut, can’t say it’ll be long remembered for its taste.
